Software and computers

So the highlight in terms of software for this year does not need much of an introduction. It’s a big one, and it’s artificial intelligence. The main player OpenAI with its ChatGPT blew up (at least for me) around March 20th this year. The day after, I wrote “10x by my side” on Twitter. The value was immediately obvious, and I could use it for everything. Coding, writing, information about complex subjects, and much more. Even discussions about things I wonder about when no one is around.

Tables are turned

Before ChatGPT I would sometimes find myself stuck with a problem, which could be big or small. I would spend hours looking for a solution around the web. Scrolling through tens of threads on StackOverflow, blogs, and forums. I would not get mentally tired, but the nature of the problem itself would hold me back. It’s hard to explain, but now I feel the obstacle is me and my energy level to keep up with what the computer gives me.

New daily driver

In November 2023, I bought a 16" MacBook Pro in Space Black with the following configuration:

  • Apple M3 Pro chip with 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
  • 18 GB unified memory
  • 512 GB SSD storage
  • 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display

Web3 schadenfreude

I had a great time following Liron Shapira’s sarcastic takedowns of the crypto and web3 crowd. His videos were hilarious, especially the one about Arianna Simpson’s “iPhone moment for crypto” (some stupid Axie Infinity game) and Marc Andreessen getting owned on a podcast trying to explain micropayments.
